I've been snooping around ebay the last couple of weeks - looking for a small and cheap Kubota with attachments. It seems like the really good buys are too good to be true -- very low buy-it-now prices, free shipping, short listing period. Then when you ask further the seller always wants restricted bidding to pre-approved buyers (forcing out-of-ebay email contact), and actually has the tractor somewhere-in-Europe but is willing to cover costs and arrange the paperwork for international shipping.
Are these scams? Has anyone successfully completed one of these transactions, or is it something well to stay away from?

Total scams. Usually hijacked accounts new sellers. Might even be stolen goods that you could be nailed with. Don't buy a tractor off eBay unless you can inspect it first and pick it up when you pay for it. That's the only safe way to buy one but there is still the issue of filtering out stolen machines. No foolproof way to do that. The best thing is if the seller has a bill of sale or financing papers to show he owns it legitimately. Then call the finance company to make sure it was paid off, otherwise the machine still belongs to them. ....

This sounds exactly like an auction I won on ebay. The item was a CNC milling machine. The seller offered free shipping. I told him I wanted to pay him in person and truck it myself. I never heard from him again. I didn't loose any money. ....

Scams. Don't bid if you or a friend can't inspect the tractor in person.
Some good deals can be found on ebay, just be careful.

here is a earlier post of mine on the same subject...
"anyone can sell you a $25,000 tractor for $5000 that does not exist. the shipping is free b/c nothing will be shipped. they all list prices like: 2500$us or $2500us.
they usually have a US location listed in the ad (where the hacked account came from). when you contact them they are abroad but work for a company (usually fedex) that will ship to your door for free. the scams are pretty easy to spot. they love kubota and john deere. it was pretty bad with four wheelers when i was shopping too. basicly any high dollar motorized item that does not typically require a title or registration ....."

The eBay scams are pretty easy to spot. I requested more info from several eBay sellers who had similar stories. They all said they were somewhere overseas, usually in the UK, and their U.S. father-in-law had died and left the tractor somewhere in the U.S. and it was a 3-day auction. The pictures looked familiar, because they had stolen them from previous Kubota auctions. The selling price was ridiculously low and always included free shipping to anywhere in the U.S. The tractors were currently located in an eBay warehouse. When I asked them for the address of the "eBay warehouse," so that I might inspect the machines, that was the end of communications.
I am in the process of buying an eBay Kubota L3600GST with LA680 FEL from a used equipment dealer in Texas. It's supposed to be "like new" and is to be delivered next week. I'm anxious to see how it looks. My first real tractor, if it shows up :-)

My eBay used Kubota arrived bright and early on Memorial Day. The seller was very accommodating to deliver it on my day off.
The L3600GST is in wonderful condition, better than I had expected. It even has mid PTO and work lights on the ROPS, which weren't listed in the description. Although it's a nine year old tractor it only has 278 hours on it and is just a little bit dusty (soon to be corrected with a wash and wax). The PTO shield and drawbar were missing (seller said someone stole them while it was for sale) so I picked up a new shield at my friendly Kubota dealer.
I'm very happy with the machine. The owner and service manuals are on the way and I plan to do a major service with fluids and filters change when I figure out how.
eBay can work, if you use caution. ....

I found my L3010 plus 3 implements by following the classifieds here and over on the other major tractor website. After some phone conversations negotiating price and peeling a 'nure sprader (which I definitely did not want) out of the package deal we struck a bargain. I flew down south to look at it for a $212 plane ticket. A check of the ytmag website located a trucker willing to haul it 800 miles at a buck a loaded mile. It is now a happy Pennsylvania tractor that lives in my 200 yr old barn.
The only problem - down south they fill the tires with WATER! That was a real hoot when the tires froze the first winter, but we got it fixed in short order.
You can get a good deal on a tractor over the internet, too, as well as e-bay. ....
